Record victory for L'Estage puts team in rally points lead

RIPON, Quebec (September 14, 2009) -- Reigning North American Rally Cup champions Antoine L'Estage and Nathalie Richard scored a double victory in the Rallye Défi, winning the fourth of sixth rounds in the 2009 Canadian Rally Championship and tying the record for the number of wins at the event.

The victory was a pivotal one for L'Estage and Richard, both from St. Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec. It puts them firmly in the lead for the last two rounds of the rally championship with 11 points over second place. It was also the fourth time the duo placed first at Rallye Défi, a record that was set in 1987 by John Buffum and Tom Grimshaw.

After winning the first round of the 2009 rally season at Rallye Perce Neige in their new Misubishi Lancer Evo X RS with Yokohama Ice Guard IG 20 tires, L’Estage and Richard had disappointing finishes in the next two events. The competition at the start of round four was intense, and the battle for first place was mere seconds apart in the early stages. In the ninth stage, L’Estage moved aggressively ahead and never looked back.

The Rallye Défi is one of the longest events in the rally season. It takes place over two days and uses some of the most challenging roads in the country.

The team’s inventory of tires included Yokohama’s ADVAN High Performance motorsport range.

Yokohama has been a supporter of rally motorsport in Canada for more than a decade. It is a corporate sponsor of the 2009 Canadian Rally Championship. In addition to L’Estage and Richard, Yokohama co-sponsors Andrew Comrie-Picard, who was a close third in Rallye Défi until a damaged oil cooler forced his retirement from the event.

The Canadian Rally Championship has been televised nationally since 1993, and the 2008 series was made available on multiple platforms, including as downloads from iTunes, on-line on Flat Over Crest ( and to 80 million homes in Europe on MotorsTV.

Yokohama Tire (Canada) Inc. markets and distributes a full line of tires for high performance, passenger car, light truck and commercial applications, as well as off-the-road tires for mining, forestry and construction applications. It maintains distribution centres across Canada to serve more than 700 independent tire dealers.
