The Midwest has contributed some of the most notable artists to the Hip Hop movement from Common Sense, Kanye West, Twista, Nelly, to groups such as Do or Die, Crucial Conflict, to the biggest selling rap group of all time Bone Thugs ' N Harmony hailing from the birth place of one of the most talented MCs Beez Portiya.
Born Donté Beasley from East Cleveland, Ohio, Portiya began to develop an outlet at age 17 to exert tension from the community which he has now mastered as his undeniable skills in rapping.
Beez soon began recording and collaborating with a partner. The duo was named after the city's area code forming the group "216". The group performed at countless shows, recorded mix tapes, and built a name for themselves as the hottest new musical talent in the city. The group captured the attention of musical veteran Derek Jackson after a mutual friend played him a song that would launch a professional career.
The group signed with Hustla Incorporated and quickly landed a deal with Universal Records in 2004 which also brought major access to producer extraordinaire Scott Storch. The group's musical talents were featured in movies such as Hollywood Homicide with Harrison Ford and Josh Arnett (2004). The group was also featured on the soundtrack of the Chris Rock and Adam Sadler remake of Burt Reynolds’ classic The Longest Yard (2005).
After a highly anticipated LP, 216 who should have become a groundbreaking duo in the Hip Hop game, parted ways with Universal Records. Due to creative differences, Beez Portiya decided a solo career was in his best interest.
Today, the Cleveland MC is solo "Daring any MC in the game to play himself out of position and mention his name", and is ready to take the game by storm! In the current state of music where record sells are low and the click of button on the internet can have you connecting with music fans all over the world. Beez Portiya IS the artist to, in his own words, "appeal to the young but grab the ears of the old like Cousin Jeff with the Truth". |
